The Andes

Part 2 of our south American adventure:

So i have got a bit distracted and gone slightly off course on our list of things to learn about so as it stands we have covered the Amazon river and rainforest. So in this post i am going to start on the Andes mountain range.

The Andes:

The Andes are the largest continental mountain range in the world as they stretch the length of the west coast of south America. The Andes go through seven countries Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.

The highest peak is Aconcagua reaching a massive 22,841ft the average height for the mountains is 13,000ft. The Andes is split into 3 separate areas North, central and South. There are many Volcanoes that stretch down throughout the Andes as the Andes Volcanoes are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Some of the Andes fall off the continent and make up the Caribbean islands of Aruba and Bonaire.

The climate varies with each different part of the Andes the South is cool and rainy, central is dry and the North is rainy and warm. These can all change depending on the altitude and how close it is to the sea.

The Main exports from the Andes is through agriculture On the mountain slopes terracing is quite common. Two of the mainexports from this farming are the crops potatoes and maize, but tobacco, coffee and cotton are also some of the leading exports.
